Assistant Athletic Trainer

The University of Mary invites applications for a full-time, exempt Assistant Athletic Trainer.  The assistant athletic trainer works under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and supervises the care of student-athletes competing in the University’s athletic programs. The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the University’s comprehensive sports program.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Coverage of assigned athletic teams, includes traveling with teams
  • Maintain appropriate medical records for all student-athletes, including daily treatment and rehab records
  • Design and conduct programs for the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
  • Collaborate with the athletic department staff to ensure the health and safety of student athletes
  • Assist in the day to day operation of the Athletic Training Department
  • Serve as a Preceptor for students in the Athletic Training Education Program
  • Upholds and promotes the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Athletics and throughout the university in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ

Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training required
  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field preferred
  • Current Board of Certification recognition as a certified athletic trainer in good standing with the NATA
  • State of North Dakota Licensure
  • Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to address conflict resolution and confrontation and diverse populations
  • Effective interpersonal skills, approachability, empath, openness, personal and professional integrity, concern for others, accountability
  • Dedication to the profession of athletic training and the individuals served
  • 2 years of experience in the sports medicine setting is preferred

Knowledge and Skills Include:

  • Must have knowledge of the methods in recognition, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Must have the ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, verbally, and in writing
  • Must be able to establish working relationships with the athletic training staff, athletics/coaching staff and administration, as well as team physicians and other members of the extended athletic training team
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time, walk, and be able to lift, or assist athletics off of the field
